Tanzania Travel Tips
CLIMATE
Tanzania experiences large regional variations in climate
but it is too close to the equator to have recognizable
changes in season. Coastal regions are hot and humid with
little drop in evening temperatures. However, the interior
is generally warm and dry during the day and slightly chilly
in the evenings and early mornings.
DRINKING WATER
Drinking water is available at all locations. It is
advisable to drink bottled water at all times while on
safari.
HEALTH
Safari participants should be in good health and must be
vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days prior to
arriving in Tanzania. Travelers are required to present a
signed vaccination certificate as proof of inoculation.
medication is advised and is available from your physician.
It is strongly advised to consult your doctor for additional
information and health precaution.
MEDICAL CARE
The Flying Doctor Society offers emergency treatment and an
ambulance service in the event of serious accident or
illness while on safari. It is strongly advisable to apply
for temporary membership at current cost of US $45 for one
month.
PACKING
Since efficient laundry services are available, travelers
are urged to pack lightly. Dress on safari is entirely
casual with emphasis on comfort. Because of dusty conditions
on safari, neutral colors are most practical. Temperature
variations warrant layerable clothing for maximum comfort.
Of course, travelers should also bring comfortable walking
shoes, personal toiletries, sun glasses, a wide brimmed hat,
sun block and insect repellent. Depending on time of travel,
a raincoat is sometimes advisable as well as a light weight
jacket. Travelers, visiting Ngorongoro should pack for
cooler high altitude temperatures. A complete packing list
and suggestions are included in pre-trip documentation.
PHOTOGRAPHY
It is advisable to bring large quantities of film to take
advantage of the countless photo opportunities available on
safari. Since film and batteries can not be obtained in
Tanzania, travelers are strongly advised to bring more than
they anticipate needing. Two - three rolls per day bring
extra batteries, especially for video recorders, is also
strongly recommended.

Out doors African markets, numerous small merchant shops, as
well as tribal roadside vendors offer shopping opportunities
to travelers wishing to purchase souvenirs. Woodcarving,
tribal ornaments and spears, batiks, leather articles,
handoven baskets and bags, tie and dyed, Tanzanite - a semi
precious stone are among the most popular souvenir finds. In
places where merchandise is not marked with prices,
bargaining is acceptable.

the Common-wealth are not required to obtain entry visas.
